The Astronomical Observatory of Mountain Pistoiese rises to a height of 950 meters above sea level in terms of locality Pian. It can be reached easily along the 3 km of poor road that separates from the village of Gavinana. The construction started in 1991 by the municipality of San Marcello Pistoiese with the contribution of Tuscany Region, the Province of Pistoia, the Commonwealth Montana and the Municipality of Piteglio. The complex of the Astronomical Observatory is located on an esplanade above Gavinana in a good position for observations of the sky. THE structure was enlarged in September 2003, consists of two rotating semisferiche domes of 5 meters in diameter, excellent amateur instruments, among them a telescope of 60 cm and a lounge, equipped with adequate audiovisual equipment for meetings and conferences.
